_ franzi a testa.

Wonder is central to religion, poetry, science, mathematics, mythology, tourism, and everyday life. Hölderlin’s relation to the gods was one of wonder and awe, as he observed thunderstorms or the powerful rivers of Swabia—the Rhine, Danube, and Neckar—nosing powerfully into their banks. Wonder requires the abandonment of reason and the acceptance of the overwhelming mystery of things—for example, the mind-boggling physics of black holes—but has no connection with irony and doubt; The life story of the mass murderer Jeffrey Dahmer fills us with wonder about the limits of the monstrous and the human. Wonder, like poetry, is related to silence. Television subdues wonder through repetition and its innate inability to confer silence on a scene. They become the wonderful then the everyday. In poetry, wonder is often attended by apostrophe (O, Love; O, Fire), which assassinates wonder at the moment it names it. In the experience of wonder, the fewer words the better, “Look at that!” or “Oh!” A doe and two fawns have stepped out of the woods and gaze straight at us. Astonishing animals, they are made real once again, appear as if for the first time.Thomas Traherne’s poem “Wonder” begins:How like an Angel came I down! How bright are all Things here! When first among his Works I did appearO how their GLORY did me Crown? The world resembled his Eternitie,In which my soul did walk; And evry Thing that I did see,Did with me talk.Traherne was a neo-platonist and pre-romantic, who saw the world as bathed in the light of pre-existence and wonder. Later in the poem, the faces of people are seen to “shine” because made holy by wonder. Like Cartier-Bresson’s “critical moment” of photography, wonder comes and goes quickly.Language can generate wonder. It’s the shadow without the mountain.Terror is wonder that lies close to Fate. Pitiless and inexorable, it’s the swan striking Leda, the lion body with the head of a man that “slouches toward Bethlehem to be born.” The more monstrous the person, the more he or she inspires wonder. This is where morality and wonder part company. indeed, Byron doing anything. The domestic side of wonder is related to admiration—admiratio in Latin—and therefore iconography, the beautiful (rather than the terrible) made visible. Such signs are too near the surface of social life to produce wonder of the greater kind, like the cosmos or the concept of creation. The kitsch art of Jeff Koons is admiratio as social wonder. In its excess of beauty it encourages us to love and scorn equally. In contemporary culture, celebrities and heroes inspire wonder: Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain, and Princess Diana. His face alone provokes wonder. Therefore, his tale is finally one of domestic wonder, of learning to live a good, noble, and faithful life. The experience of domestic wonder is expressed in Wallace Stevens’ “The Man on the Dump”: “the janitor’s poems / Of every day, the wrapper on the can of pears, / The cat in the paper-bag, the corset, the box / From Esthonia: the tiger chest, for tea.” All lies on the dump of the everyday awaiting the “purifying change” of imagination by which they become wonder.Wonder will not be forced. You cannot “pull / the day to pieces and cry” in a meaningless poetic rhetoric, “stanza my stone.” The wonder of ordinary things is what Stevens calls “the the,” the thing itself. The last great carnival ride of the metaphysical, Surrealism was doomed by its willful search for the “absolute.” Indeterminacy teaches another lesson: the power of weakness, avoidance, and lyrical distance to “knit” wonder from rifts of consciousness. The most difficult thing to conceive of, the ultimate wonder, is the world itself. To express the world’s complexity, we resort to paradox and tautology: I am that I am, the thing as such, “the world worlds,” (Heidegger), “that the self should find itself” (Schelling). For the German poet Hölderlin, the world was a source of wonder because the gods were still present in it. Here is an early poem, which, like many of his works, was to prove prophetic of his own fate:To the Fates (An die Parzen)Give me just one summer, stark sisters,One more autumn to ripen my song. Then I’ll gladly die, my heart filledWith that sweet music. The soul, which never had its godly rightsIn life, won’t find peace either. When just once the sacred lies downIn my heart, the poem will find perfection. Then I will welcome the worldOf silence and shadows and happily leaveMy song behind—once you’ve livedLike the gods, what else is there? In July, 1802, his mental health threatened by an arduous walking trip to Bourdeaux and the decline of his fortunes as a poet and private tutor, Hölderlin received a letter informing him of the death of his married lover, Susette Gontard, from measles. His last poems, written in a comparatively naïve style on the subject largely of the seasons, were frequently signed “Scardanelli” and given fictitious dates ranging from “March 24, 1671” to “March 9, 1940.” When he was presented with a copy of his Selected Poems in 1826, he said that he remembered having written some of them but fiercely denied that their author was named Hölderlin. Hölderlin’s poems of this period bring to mind the title of an earlier poem, “The River in Chains.” The poet-as-agonist seeks to break the chains of syntax and logic and acquire his full share of indeterminacy, or “freedom.” But to go beyond social and linguistic boundaries is also to enter the territory of madness, as we see in the lives of Christopher Smart, John Clare, and Antonin Artaud. In a seizure of naming comparable to The Waste Land (“Jerusalem Athens Alexandria / Vienna London / Unreal”), Hölderlin takes us on a haunting descent through difference where the river is in Cappadoccia, a monumental place beautiful in absence:and Innocent interrupted the lectureand named it the Nursery of French BishopsAloisia Sigea differentia vitaeurbanae et rusticae Thermidona river in Cappadoccia Val-telino Schonberg Scotus Shonberg TenerifeWhile the poet’s syntax is here much deformed and points toward radical modernist experiment, the lines of “In the Forest” immediately to follow are among the most lyrical he produced:When the vineyard is in flamesAnd looks black as coalIn Autumn, becauseThe reeds of life breathe fireIn shadows of the vines,How pretty when the soul unfoldsAnd also our brief livesThe long poem pulses with artistic counterpoint, with textural and tonal adjustment, for, in all of Hölderlin’s work, the poetic persona is that of one who demands meaning, whole or shredded. Only the gods can save him, but, as the poem “Patmos” reminds us, “The god / Is near and difficult to grasp.” We can have powerful intimations of the gods, but we can never face them directly. Because such poems are usually part of a longer series, and each part is designed to refer only lightly to its neighbors, each page of the series is a poem in itself. One of the creators of the serial poem, Jack Spicer compares the form to turning lights on and off in a series of dark rooms. The struggle for wonder has passed. It allows for mystery and wonder as forms of knowledge. Beneath the observable world, a starker world lies out of reach and veiled, but suggestible through language. The Age of Discovery in Europe was also the Age of Wonder. Lodged within such wonder is fear and, in seeing the aliens as the non-human, the inevitability of their subjugation. The child is seized as a museum piece, ready for installation despite its status as a living thing.Poems are drawn by wonder, but depend upon truth. Poems insist on wonder at its noblest, as the grip of the real.

Verlander did not either as no matter what the wins and ERA say, his peripherals suggest that he’s a solid big league pitcher and nothing more:2.83 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 5.73 K/9, 2.14 K/BB, 1.26 GB/FB, .247 Opp BA. Again, the ERA is great, but the rest of his peripherals look like those of a guy who should be pitching to an ERA around 4.00, especially in the American League. Of the nine pitchers who are within a tenth of Verlander in GB/FB, five have better K/9 and better K/BB. The list:Kevin Millwood: 4.66 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 6.09 K/BB, 3.12 K/BB, 1.33 GB/FB, .297 Opp BACC Sabathia: 3.59 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 8.11 K/9, 3.83 K/BB, 1.26 GB/FB, .278 Opp BAKelvim Escobar: 3.88 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 6.67 K/9, 2.47 K/BB, 1.28 GB/FB, .245 Opp BA Jose Contreras: 3.48 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 6.19 K/9, 2.29 K/BB, 1.22 GB/FB, .239 Opp BADan Haren: 3.73 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 6.85 K/9, 3.61 K/BB, 1.17 GB/FB, .247 Opp BALooking at those peripherals, one sees that outside of Millwood, who is clearly victimized by playing at Ameriquest Field in Texas, none of Verlander’s numbers are better than those of the remaining four. Yet despite having worse K/9 and K/BB numbers, they all have ERAs much higher. But Liriano’s stuff has been loads better than Verlander’s as indicated by his K/9 (10.41), K/BB (4.15) and GB/FB (2.28).

Array I have tons of personal debt, a trail of really bad relationships, a trail of worse relationships ahead of me, no best friends only acquaintances, and a month away from slave labor with Walgreen’s. If I could, I would lock myself in my bedroom for months and never see daylight. My dream when I was 17 years old was to attend the Chicago Inst. I wanted to go and live a dream as an interior designer or an architect. I feel so confined sometimes living up to the perfect expectations I set for myself since birth. I know my family is very proud. My dreams got lost amongst the shuffle of money and expectations and the pursuit of status. I know it is sad that I still sit and draw & design.

All the pages, as they will appear once the edges are trimmed and the cover sewn on, including the blank pages that come at the beginning and end of the story. My name across the top of the pages and in nice big letters on the title page. It started to feel very real. Each correction must be typed in detail on a list to be sent back to the publisher so he can incorporate them into the book block.Page 202 Para 3 Line 7 : Insert comma after the word pillow - reads with the pillow and she couldn’t - should be with the pillow, and she couldn’t.See what I mean? It took me over 5 hours the first day just to type the corrections after I finished proofing that days pages. For all my fussing that I wasn’t adding any more sensual awareness/sexual tension than I already had, I’m suddenly feeling like its on every page. All I know is, I feel like I’m walking pretty close to the line between what is and isn’t acceptable in the modest world I live in. My first time missing a deadline, and it doesn’t feel good. I try not to let them know how hard it is for me to always feel left behind while they’re out enjoying their lives. That, coupled with missing my friends, has me feeling weary and alone. It’s a phrase to which lip service is paid in moments when they want me to feel special, but it has no basis in reality. In reality, I am no one’s priority.A dream worth having is a dream worth fighting for. Sometimes it just gets tiring to feel that I’m left to carry the dreams all on my own. But every now and again, the nasty voice jumps up and reminds me of all the failed dreams that I’ve believed in before, the people I’ve trusted in who have betrayed me and crushed me, and I feel like a fool for trusting one more time, being so sure that this time it will be different.I have a vague recollection of being a real person once, with real passions and people who loved me.

Array The brainchild of Channel 31, this quality programming has entertained and amused me for years. It is with much sorrow I have to inform you that on March 4 2007 Channel 31 retired ‘Fishcam’.** Vanessa wipes the tear flowing down her left cheek **I have to admit that after this shocking programming decision by the network I didn’t think Channel 31 would have anything of quality to offer me.I was wrong.Let me set the scene:At 5am this morning I was working away on some designs for a tough client. workout for 80 year old ladies with arthritis.Okay, it’s not that I find the elderly funny, but watching them lift soup cans to the phat beats of electro music was incredibly humorous!Humm…

Its the second time I’ve beenin a place where a calamity has struck.First it was the Tsunami inChennai and now the killer showers of Mumbai and I wonder as to why Iwasn’t affected seriously by the calamity(not that I want to beaffected). It was a first time experience for me.I have never seen sucha heavy rainfall in my life(well I must’ve quite forgotten what arain means as i’ve been in Chennai for the past 5 years or so).On that day ie;26th of July,I was at my uncle’s place(in Thane)and theentire colony had near about waist deep water.I’m thankful that hishouse is on the third floor,so nature was defeated in some wayatleast. On the other hand my aunt’s house(in Chembur) being on the ground floorwas flooded with knee deep water. All the plywood on the beds andcupboards has been wrinkled and tansformed into a pattern of waves onwood!I once had the experience of waddling through thigh deep water-sewage’cocktail’ and god knows what epidemic i’ll be bed ridden with,in thefuture.

-ne Sampling Oakland at Yerba Buena Center for the ArtsCurator Berin Golonu states the purpose of the show quite clearly:Some say Oakland today is what San Francisco was in the 70s: a place where younger artists can afford to spread out, hang out and create a thriving arts scene. To get a better sense of what’s actually going on in Oakland, I recommend taking the BART one stop in (West Oakland) and checking out the Community Virology show at Lobot Gallery with 1500 artists on the walls at last count._________Also, Sarah Lockheart and Darren Jenkins of 21 Grand will be curating a night of performances by Oakland-based artists on August 31, inculding Mary Armentrout, Jorge Boehringer, Phillip Greenlief, Jay Korber, Alexander Kort, Dawn McMahon, Kristin Miltner, The Noodles (Suki O’Kane &
